Gymnasts Shine at QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics

Almost 300 gymnasts from QGSSSA schools competed at the 54th Annual QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics Championships yesterday at Clayfield College.

The host school took out a very close Open competition for the third year in a row, with the team (pictured) scoring 112.825, ahead of 2016 winner St Aidan’s AGS 112.350 and St Hilda’s School in third on 111.550.

Top performers for each apparatus saw Clayfield College’s Isabella McDonnell-Baum score a 9.600 on Vault and 9.575 on Beam, while Moreton Bay College’s Kirsten Burger scored 9.750 on Floor, with a tie for top score on Uneven Bars of 9.650 being shared by Brisbane Girls Grammar School’s Maya Sudrikku and Alice Zhu.

Girls Grammar were victorious in A Grade, their best result for the division in recent years, and followed up with wins in the B Grade and Year 7 (ii) divisions.

Somerville House also had their best result in recent years, winning the C Grade and both D Grade (i) and (ii) divisions.

St Margaret’s AGS retained their Year 7 (i) title for a third consecutive year.
