Swimmers Impress in front of QGSSSA Alumni

The 2018 QGSSSA Swimming Championships provided the perfect location to launch the 110 Years celebrations of QGSSSA last Wednesday.

The annual Championships again saw incredible talent represent their schools with 13 records falling on the night.

In front of numerous QGSSSA Alumni and over 3000 spectators, St Peters Lutheran College won their fifth straight Mollie Gould Cup with Moreton Bay winning their fourth consecutive Sheena Dyason Percentage Cup.

St Peters also retained both Brockway Cup trophies, setting a new Open record of 1:45.48.

The evening had many highlights including two 2018 Commonwealth Games representatives contesting the 200m Freestyle.

Ariarne Titmus (SPLC) broke her 2017 record with State High’s Laticia Transom finishing second. Both girls will represent their countries (Australia and New Zealand respectively) next month on the Gold Coast.

Titmus went on to break three more records and was part of the victorious Open Brockway Cup team.

Past and present Commonwealth Games, Olympic and Australian representatives all hailing from QGSSSA schools joined the celebrations for the 110 Years and presented all winners with their trophies and pennants.

We thank the following QGSSSA alumni for their attendance:
Felicity Abram, Barbara Alexander and Sally McCann (BGGS); Hayley Lewis and Charlotte Caslick (BSHS); Stephanie Rice (Clayfield College); Emma Young, Chloe Holden, Kym Jaenke and Caitlin Roberts (IGGS), Sarah Beale and Carla Buchanan (MBC), Carol Hudson (Somerville House), Cecile Wake, Rachel Forbes and Chelsea Higgins (St Aidan’s AGS); Laura Taylor (St Hilda’s School); Bronte Barratt (St Margaret’s AGS) and Yolane Kukla (SPLC).
