Track and Field Athletics Championship Highlights

A new venue and a new environment greeted QGSSSA competitors at the 100th annual Track and Field Athletics Championships.

For the first time since 2004, the Association event was held in the main stadium at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre, much to the girls’ delight.

Inline with COVID guidelines and precautions, the girls were able to return to Athletics in an almost identical environment with the lack of spectators.

Teams made up for the lack of noise, passionately cheering their teammates on throughout the course of the day.

For the first time in Association history, the event was live streamed to QGSSSA schools’ track and field families so they didn’t miss a race.

A full day of events saw 16 new records set across the six age groups.

Moreton Bay College (MBC) and St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ Schools were victorious at the end of the day, winning the Stephens Aggregate Cup and Del Mellefont Percentage Trophy respectively.

MBC (986 points) collected their fifth Stephens Cup in a row ahead of St Peters Lutheran College (905) and Brisbane State High School (743) in third.

St Aidan’s made it an incredible seven in a row for the Del Mellefont Trophy, finishing on 123%, ahead of second placed Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School (98%) and third placed Clayfield College (97%).

The Age Pennants went to Brisbane State High School (12 Years & Under), St Peters Lutheran College (13, 14 and 16 Years) and Moreton Bay College (15 Years and 17 Years & Over).

There were some outstanding individual efforts by the girls; a list of records can be found below.
