State High, St Aidan’s Win at Rivermount

State High went back-to-back while St Aidan’s “brought Joan back” at the 28th Annual QGSSSA Cross Country meet.

It was a very warm day at Rivermount College for the 1,026 girls representing their schools.

Thousands of supporters turned out to cheer on their schools and make the most of the glorious Autumn day.

Brisbane State High proved again what a strong running school they are, taking out five of the six Age pennants on offer as well as the overall Association Cup.

St Aidan’s were highly competitive all day, eventually reclaiming the Joan Benson Percentage Shield from arch rivals St Margaret’s.

St Margaret’s also had a solid day, taking out the 16 Years pennant.

A new record was set by Brisbane State High’s Katrina Robinson in the 16 Years race, running the fastest 3km time recorded at a QG Cross Country meet for any age group. Her sizzling 9:33 broke the previous record set by St Margaret’s Olivia Burdon of 9:54 in the 17 Years & Over age group in 2015. Katrina had just returned from winning the International School Sport Federation Cross Country in Budapest, she’s a remarkable athlete.

Other records broken saw State High’s Keira Moore take half a minute off the previous 12 Years & Under mark, coming in at 10:43, while Lucinda Crouch from St Margaret’s ran the second fastest 16 Years’ time of all time, finishing 25 seconds behind Katrina Robinson at 9:59.
