Touch Football Update

9:30am, Sat 31 October

The final day of QGSSSA sport for 2020 is underway on the Gold Coast as St Hilda’s School hosts the rescheduled Touch Football competition at Labrador.

A sea of colour currently covers the eight Labrador Touch Association fields as girls play a one-day friendly competition to finish their sporting year.

Normally a weekly fixture sport, Touch Football was cancelled in late Term 1 following the arrival of COVID. With 111 teams having played just one round of games before sport was cancelled, the appetite for participation and team spirit was strong and the opportunity to trial a carnival-style event was explored.

Years 7-11 were split over two venues being Whites Hill in Brisbane and Labrador.

Wet weather unfortunately caused the cancellation of the 7A, 7B, 8/9B and 9A competitions at Whites Hill with the grounds closed, deemed too wet to proceed.

The sun is currently shining on the Gold Coast and while spectators are not permitted due to COVID restrictions at the venue, girls are enjoying their last hurrah for the year with plenty of teamwork, smiles and touch football.
