The 59th Annual QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics Championships took centre stage on Tuesday 1 April, hosted by Clayfield College in a celebration of strength, skill and school pride.

With over a hundred gymnasts from across the association coming together to compete, the day was filled with remarkable performances, inspiring leadership and unwavering team spirit.

Session One set the tone for the day with the youngest gymnasts delivering confident and composed routines full of energy and determination. Congratulations to Brisbane Girls Grammar School, who claimed both the Year 7 i and Year 7 ii pennants, and to the host school, Clayfield College, who took out the D Grade title. What an impressive debut from our newest competitors.

As the competition progressed, Session Two lit up the arena. A and Open Grade gymnasts delivered performances of the highest calibre, captivating spectators with their precision and flair. Congratulations to St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, winners of the A Grade pennant, and to Clayfield College, who secured the Open Grade title with poise and power.

The Championships came to a thrilling conclusion in Session Three, as our B and C Grade athletes rose to the occasion and performed with pride and passion. Clayfield College ended the day on a high, taking home both final pennants and sealing a remarkable all-round team performance. Their success across multiple grades was a testament to the dedication, depth and unity of their program.

Among the many highlights of the day were the outstanding individual performances in the Open Division. To be recognised as the highest-scoring gymnast on an apparatus in this category is an extraordinary achievement. Congratulations to the following athletes who delivered standout routines under pressure:

Beam – Melody Chambers, Brisbane Girls Grammar School – 9.800
Floor – Iara Chaves, Clayfield College – 9.875

QGSSSA extends its sincere thanks to the 19 judges who gave their time, focus and expertise across the day. We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of Nicki Robbins from Premier Gymnastics, John Mitchell from Delta Gymnastics and Chuck Smith from Control Section for their invaluable roles in ensuring the smooth delivery of the event.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Gymnastics Queensland for their continued support of the QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Together, we delivered another unforgettable day of celebration, competition and camaraderie in girls’ sport.
