The penultimate round of QGSSSA Winter Fixtures will be a special affair in 2018.
To mark the 110 year anniversary of the Association, all Open divisions will be held at central venues to celebrate the achievements of the girls throughout the season and the 110 years. Special guests will be on hand to present pennants to the winning sides.
Girls across all divisions and all sports have been provided with a purple QGSSSA ribbon to wear in their hair to mark the occasion as well as commemorative programs being available at each central venue.
It’s not just QGSSSA marking a significant milestone in 2018, but coincidentally all four winter fixture sports also celebrate an Association milestone. Hockey celebrates 40 years, Volleyball 50 years, Netball 105 years and Tennis an amazing 110 years. (The photo featured with this article is the 1972 St Aidan’s AGS Tennis team).
Open Hockey starts at 7:30am at the UQ Hockey turfs. It has worked out that the top four ranked teams play eachother in this final round with BSHS v MBC (1 v 3) at 7:30am followed by BGGS v SPLC (2 v 4) at 8:45, both on Turf 4. On Turf 5, Somerville House will take on St Margaret’s AGS at 7:30am while St Hilda’s School and St Aidan’s AGS will follow at 8:45am. Clayfield College will host Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School in both Open and Junior at Shaw Park from 7:30am.

All Open and Junior A Tennis will be played at the Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson. All matches will commence at 8:00am following a warm up.

Finally, at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, all Open and Year 7A Netball and Volleyball games will be played. All Year 7A Netball games will be played at 7:30am to be followed by Open games at 8:45am and 10:00am. Volleyball games start with four of the Year 7 fixtures at 7:30am and games continuing at 8:45am and 10:00am.
